Elastomers and Polymers of Higher Alpha-Olefins

An innovative technology for the production of extra-high molecular polymers of higher olefins production has been developed. Pilot batches of polyokten and okten- decene co-polymer of extra-high molecular mass have been produced using the same catalysts as for polypropylene synthesis, thus obviating the need for any changes to existing production line.

These polymers exhibit unique properties:

  1. their molecular mass can be as high as 107;
  2. the polymer chain doesn't contain double carbon-carbon bonds, thereby providing for extremely high weather resistant qualities;
  3. the temperature interval for rubber-like elasticity lies between -60 to +180??, which is virtually impossible for any modern carbon cycle polymer;
  4. the polymers are roentgenamorphous and dissolve well in hydrocarbon liquids (petroleum, etc.).

These properties allow both conventional elastomer applications (non-freeze and shock-resistance, densifiers, sealants for plastic windows, soft roofage production, quality paving production), and unique ones that may be required. Also the products can be effectively applied for the maintenance of oil- and refined products pipeline. Therefore, the extremely high molecular masses allow polymers of higher olefins to be applied as antiturbulent additives to crude oil and refined products, reducing the flow drag in oil pipelines by 23% decrease.

Long-chain molecules of poly- -olefins can form meshes at comparatively low concentration. As a result, materials, containing them, display the properties of pseudo-cross-linked compositions, hence possessing extremely high physical-mechanical, thermal and physical properties: shockproof plastics, soft roofage, quality paving, etc..

Elastomers, based on high molecular poly- -olefins, have been effectively tested as polymeric plugs for oil-and -gas pipelines cleanout from water and contamination. In addition adhesive tapes with a glue base made of higher poly- -olefins, showed anti-corrosion properties substantially superior to existing products.

The technology is further characterized by its low production cost and simplicity.
